Advancing next-generation geothermal turbine technology to unlock London’s geothermal energy potential.

We combine geothermal engineering, emerging turbine technology and advanced subsurface monitoring to help clients evaluate, design and develop geothermal energy projects. We work with project owners, engineering partners and investors to identify opportunities, manage technical risks and develop practical pathways towards implementation.

Geothermal questions, answered

Heat pumps, net zero, ORC power plants, heat networks and due diligence.

Does London have a deep geothermal energy potential?

At London Geothermal, we are exploring how advances in geothermal engineering, resource assessment and next-generation turbine technology could help evaluate the potential for deep geothermal power generation in London. The key questions are whether suitable temperatures and subsurface conditions can be accessed at viable depths, whether sufficient heat can be sustainably extracted, and whether it can be converted into electricity economically. Answering these questions requires site-specific geological and geophysical assessment, thermal analysis, engineering studies and, where justified, field validation. Our objective is to help establish whether deep geothermal electricity generation can become a technically and commercially viable part of London’s future energy system. We are developing next-generation geothermal turbine technology as part of this ambition, alongside our wider geothermal engineering and technical due diligence services.

Can geothermal help my site reach net zero?

Yes. Geothermal and heat pumps can replace gas heating, and we can pair them with solar PV and battery storage. Our net-zero feasibility work sets out the technical options, CAPEX, OPEX and projected ROI, so you have a clear route to cut operational carbon.

What is an ORC power plant and when does it make sense?

An Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) plant converts low to medium temperature heat into electricity. It suits geothermal resources and industrial waste heat. Qbivio Micro ORC is our in-house compact ORC technology, and we also help select and integrate ORC plant for larger projects.

Do you work on geothermal district heating and 5GDHC networks?

Yes. We carry out feasibility studies and network design that connect a geothermal heat source to a town or district, including 5th-generation (5GDHC) systems.

Can geothermal be used to cool a data centre?

Yes. Closed-loop geothermal heat exchangers can reject large thermal loads, which can lower Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and reduce water consumption. We assess surface and deep options for data centre cooling and power.

What does geothermal technical due diligence involve?

An independent review of the resource, wells and plant data of a geothermal project or asset, so investors and lenders understand the technical risk before committing capital. Our team has completed more than 2,000 due-diligence engagements.

How do you manage induced seismicity risk?

With MikroSismik Ltd we provide microseismic monitoring, induced seismicity traffic light systems (TLS) and ambient noise tomography. These help de-risk drilling, stimulation and operation of geothermal projects.

Which countries do you work in?

We are based in London and support clients across the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), the Republic of Ireland, Europe and internationally, with experience on more than 200 geothermal projects worldwide.

How much does a geothermal feasibility study cost?

Cost depends on the technology, site and depth of the study, so every engagement is scoped and quoted individually. Send us a short brief and we will reply with next steps.
